Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink reckons he can’t be using the formation

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink reckons he can’t be using the formation he had used the previous season if he has to make a change in the forward position and pick Conor Washington instead of Polter.

Polter was the starting forward for QPR in the winters and Washington was just the back up for him. But, after shining in Euro, the latter has his nose ahead for the position and he might now be able to pip his German colleague who has not become a senior international player anymore.

According to Hasselbaink, while both Washington and Polter are attackers, they are not similar. So, if one has to replace the other, the formation has to change to make sure the team is comfortable operating as a whole.

Hailing Washington, Hasselbaink said, “Definitely a wonderful Euro for him which hopefully gets him confident. We have been speaking to the lad and he is really pleased about the France trip. A 20-day holiday has been granted to him as we felt he must get that much of time to charge his body and mind to the fullest again.

“I expect to see him fresh when he joins in. There definitely has to be a discussion in regards to the formation if we go with Conor because he and Sebastian are not totally alike the way they play.”

On asked about Jordan Cousins, the latest recruit, the Dutchman said, “In the first week itself, I had talked in detail what qualities I would be looking for in the Footballers when I make a signing and he certainly has most of those qualities. His best is ahead of him.”

“Jordan would be the midfielder for us for sure because midfield is his specialised region, not the flanks.”
