Redknapp Confident In Automatic Promotion For QPR

QPR looked the overwhelming favourites to get promoted back to the Premier league at the start of the season, but they have been slowly slipping down the table due to inconsistent form for the last few months. Manager Harry Redknapp has seen his team slowly improve in form over the last few weeks and it has helped them close the gap on second placed Burnley with only a handful of matches left. A run of just one defeat and a draw in the last five matches has pushed QPR into the third place, but they still remain nine points behind Burnley.

Speaking after the 1-0 win over fellow promotion candidates Wigan Athletic, Harry Redknapp said that he is still confident of getting to the Premier league automatically. Only the top two teams qualify for the Premier league automatically, while the next four teams have to be involved in the play-off. Yossi Benayoun scored the only goal of the match in the win over Wigan, while he was also sent off later encounter for a second yellow card.
QPR’s next match will be against Blackpool, who are struggling near the relegation zone.

“You never give up [on automatic promotion]. But the likelihood for us is that it will be the play-offs, so what you desperately want to do is go into them with a bit of momentum, in a bit of form. We all know we’ve had a bit of a sticky spell but now we are doing a little better. By the same token, we would like to think that if anyone slipped up, that we would be best-placed to make it up. We all know we’ve had a bit of a sticky spell but now we are doing a little better,” said the club’s assistant manager Kevin Bond after the win over Wigan.
